After spending 30K getting the ground sorted from the rain deluge there was no way we could afford production costs for a 2017 promo. But Jimi Reed stepped forward and posted this on YouTube. Thank you Mr Reed, you and family are Wickham stars! Do it again tomorrow people…
Our most complained about stage clash was Edward II with Show of Hands. Those complaints certainly had a good point , judge for yourself…
Supporting the surrounding community and promoting local artists has always been a valued part of our festival. Whilst most of us at 8 years old were struggling to learn the recorder… here is Erin Gracie (our youngest ever performer) doing Hampshire proud by opening The Quay West Studio Stage with an original composition, Another Singer, at Wickham Festival 2017…
For those who enjoyed the Q&A with Tom Walker a.k.a. Jonathan Pie at Wickham Festival 2017 or for those that missed it, here’s a video of the full show…
Wickham Festival 2017 Reviews
In 2017 we got off to a muddy start on Thursday with torrential rain the preceeding day. This caused issues for early arrivals and we worked hard bringing in diggers to clear the mud, tractors to tow vehicles and we covered the site in straw. Thankfully the site was quick to drain and the mud was consigned to history with lessons learnt. For 2018 we already have plans in place to improve access to the camping fields which we’ll post before Wickham Festival 2018.
As ever we always aim to make improvements and try new things based on the feedback we receive. We introduced a late night comedy tent for those that still had energy after the music. We brought back the big screens either side of our main stage and for the first time added a big projection screen outside our main big top so everyone had a great view of what was happening onstage. For our campers we introduced Yoga amongst other morning activities. To keep you relaxed we introduced a chill out area … OK for 2018 we’re looking to resolve kids taking over the hammocks!
We also worked closely with the local community so our weekend visitors could make a holiday of their weekend by visiting the picturesque rural setting of Wickham village. With a half hourly shuttle bus between the festival site and village, visiting the picturesque Georgian Market Square (one of the largest in England) couldn’t have been easier. With organised history walks and even the opportunity to get involved in campanology we made it easy to soak up some rural English culture away from the festival site.
As ever festival reviews focus on what’s happening on stage, so here are some articles we found. Please let us know via our social channels if you know of other articles or wrote a blog post on Wickham Festival 2017 that you’d like us to share.
