The Freddy Saxo Quartet will be serving-up lunchtime jazz, soul & funk on Sunday 2nd August. Fred Schmid is a Saxophonist, Composer and Educator based in England. He is at home on all saxes across the Musical Spectrum. Originally from Switzerland where he studied at School of Musical Technologies ETM. He’s perfomed around the UK and abroad for the last 25 years in venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Cafe, Southbank Centre, Hackney Empire, Union Chapel, LoveSupreme Festival, London Jazz Festival, and Womad Festival.
Curtis Stigers proved himself as a firm favourite with many when he joined us in 2024 so we are delighted to welcome him back on Sunday 2nd August.
Curtis Stigers has had several top ten hits as a long-haired, blue-eyed soul singer and he’s written and sung an Emmy nominated TV theme song. He’s recorded a track for one of the biggest-selling pop albums of all time and he’s released nine critically-acclaimed, award-winning jazz albums. He’s played for presidents and princes and he’s appeared in two Seth MacFarlane movies about a foul-mouthed cuddly bear called Ted. He’s recorded thirteen studio albums and a live album singing Sinatra songs with the world-famous Danish Radio Big Band. He’s toured with symphony orchestras, written songs with Carole King and duetted with Al Green, Shawn Colvin and Tom Jones.
For the past 30 years, the singer, songwriter, saxophonist and guitarist has been making records that confound those who try to categorize his music or put him in a box.
Curtis Stigers’s new album This Life is the answer to that question. It’s a celebration of three decades of musical exploration, evolution and growth. It’s a look back at 13 albums, thousands of concert performances and millions of miles on the road. “We created most of these arrangements onstage, during soundchecks and concerts,” says Stigers. “My songs have changed and grown as they’ve gotten older, just like I have.”
Curtis Stigers burst onto the recording scene in 1991 with his eponymous debut album, which sold 1.5 million copies and spawned several self-penned, pop/soul-flavored hit singles, including “You’re All That Matters To Me,” “Never Saw A Miracle” and the worldwide top-ten hit, “I Wonder Why.” The 25-year-old NYC-based musician then toured the world in support of the album, opening shows for the likes of Elton John, Prince, Eric Clapton, James Brown, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart and Bonnie Raitt, and made multiple appearances on the TV show circuit, including The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Arsenio and The Today Show.

Established in 1989, The Dhol Foundation began as a small class in slough with only a few friends asking Johnny Kalsi for Dhol drumming lessons. A couple of weeks went by, and those friends bought friends of friends and so on… One class turned into several! Before we knew it we became the first-ever dhol class/academy in the UK, creating a new breed of modern dhol players that became quickly in demand!
Back in 2019 the wonderful Johnny Kalsi (also of The Afro Celt Sound System) agreed to be our first-ever Festival Patron. Johnny has performed at Wickham in several guises over the years and says he loves our Festival.

The Tuneless experience is unique. We sing purely for the pleasure of it – with no pressure or expectation to improve – and simply aim for everyone to leave us feeling energised and uplifted.
The Leaders of Locks Heath and Solent Tuneless Choirs say “We know that singing in a group brings huge benefits. Some of those are physical, as we know choirs benefit conditions such as Parkinson’s and COPD. I believe, however, that the greatest effect is on our mental health from the emotional and social benefits.
“Research has shown that group singing reduces cortisol levels, so decreases stress and anxiety. It also increases endorphins, our “happy hormones”, and so people who sing regularly are shown to have greater life satisfaction. I’m not surprised as when you are in a positive frame of mind, it’s so much easier to cope with what life throws at you. It’s just incredible how doing something so simple can increase someone’s quality of life.

We’re delighted to confirm that top Irish band The Saw Doctors will headline on the Saturday 1st August 2026.

The Saw Doctors were discovered by Mike Scott of The Waterboys on a stormy Tuesday night in Galway in the 1980’s, plying their trade with more gumption than virtuosity in the back room of The Quays Bar. Scott offered The Saw Doctors the support slot on The Waterboy’s Irish Tour to launch the ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ album in 1988 and before the tour was completed, Mike asked The Saw Doctors to support The Waterboys on their six-week tour of Great Britain in Spring 1989.
Mike Scott produced The Saw Doctors first single, ‘N17’, which was written by the band’s singer Davy Carton and guitarist Leo Moran. ’N17’ got a few plays on Irish radio and a second single was scheduled to be released to fulfil the band’s two-record deal with Solid Records in Dublin.
With Philip Tennant, whom they had met through Mike Scott, now on the producer’s perch, The Saw Doctors went to the haunted Loco Studios in Wales and put down three tracks – ‘It Won’t Be Tonight’, ‘I Useta Lover’ and ’Sing A Powerful Song’.
After much debate, it was eventually decided that ‘I Useta Lover’ would be the second release from The Saw Doctors. The Galway band plugged away at gigs around Ireland and scored an early afternoon slot at the coming-of-age Irish festival of its time, Féile, in Thurles, in August 1990. The Welsh ghost must have brought them luck for that Sunday evening, they learnt that ‘I Useta Lover’ had somehow entered the Irish single charts at No. 27, from where it slowly climbed, taking seven weeks to reach Number One and remaining on top for the following nine weeks, going on to become the biggest selling Irish single, outselling U2 and Sinéad O’Connor. The Saw Doctors were now known the length and breadth of Ireland and beyond.
Things got fast for The Saw Doctors. A Channel 4, film documentary, ‘Sing A Powerful Song’, was shot in Manchester and at a homecoming concert in the Football Stadium in Tuam and it aired in Britain and Ireland. The Saw Doctors made their first trip to The United States in 1991, a journey they have made almost a hundred times since.
Through the 1990’s, The Saw Doctors chalked up well-received appearances at numerous prestigious festivals including Witness, Oxegen and Slane Castle in Ireland; Glastonbury, T in the Park, the London Fleadh in Britain as well as at its Fleadh cousins across the Atlantic in New York and San Francisco, and garnered a reputation for being a powerful and exciting live band, playing gigs in Ireland, Britain and the USA, with the odd trip to Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Holland, France and Belgium.
A handful of singles went Top 20 in the British Charts through the nineties & The Saw Doctors appeared on BBC’s ‘Top of the Pops’ three times with ‘Small Bit Of Love’, ‘To Win Just Once’ and ‘World Of Good’. The Saw Doctors third album ’Same Oul’ Town’ reached No. 6 in the UK Album Charts in 1996.
The end of 2011 brought another surprise hit for The Saw Doctors – having included a verse and chorus of ‘Downtown’ in the show-closing ‘Hay Wrap’, the band noticed that ‘Downtown’ captured the imagination of the audience, making it a potential contender for the Christmas single. On a long-shot, producer Phillip Tennant got in touch with Petula Clark’s manager and a recording session was arranged in London where the old 60’s classic was re-vamped and recorded – ‘The Saw Doctors featuring Petula Clark’! The lively duet made it to number 2 in the Irish singles Christmas chart.
After a five-year break from touring, The Saw Doctors staged a brilliant comeback in 2023 with sold out shows in London at Hammersmith Apollo, New York at Hammerstein Ballroom and two homecoming shows in Tuam, Co. Galway where they played to 10,000 people in St. Jarlath’s Arena. Perhaps their most enjoyable and memorable performance was when they graced the stage at Wickham Festvial that year 🙂

The Marching SKAletons are a horn led Day of the Dead group that can perform either as a street or electric band, being equally at home on stage or weaving through a festival crowd. They can play a set of traditional ska instrumentals for diehard ska fans or mix it up with surprising ska versions of hits from Depeche Mode, Taylor Swift, Kraftwerk and even Europe. The line up features a powerhouse horn section, guitars, marching drums and bass. The music is a celebratory energetic fusion of ska, Latin, electro, pop & mariachi that guarantees audiences will be dancing.
The band have performed at a varied selection of events and head a regular ska night at The Pelirocco in Brighton. They have entertained crowds at festivals and council events throughout the UK. Past performances include Glastonbury Festival, Together the People festival, Elderflower Fields festival as well as supporting Madness at the Brighton centre. They perform annually at Hove County Cricket grounds bonfire night and have entertained at the National Trust carnival at Montacute House as well as arts council funded Basingstoke’s Day of the Dead. Media appearances include Channel 4 News & BBC Hampshire.
Last appearing at Wickham Festival in 2021 and twice voted BBC Folk Duo of the Year, Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman will be at Wickham on Sunday 2nd August. Duos come and go, but few nurture and refine their craft with such dedication and originality.
Roberts and Lakeman have forged a creative bond that is as enduring as it is inspiring. Their 30 year journey together — from young trailblazers in the 1990s folk supergroup Equation to one of Britain’s most admired and decorated folk duos — stands as a testament to their artistry, authenticity, and masterful musicianship.
Their contribution to the British folk landscape has not gone unnoticed. Kathryn and Sean have twice been named ‘Best Duo’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, in addition to accolades from Spiral Earth and Fatea Magazine. Their live shows — brimming with charm, wit, and musical mastery — have earned them a devoted following and a reputation as a cornerstone act of the British folk and acoustic scene.
In 2025, the duo celebrated an extraordinary 30 years of music-making with the release of their first live concert album, “Another Day at the Circus” which captures the warmth, humour, and emotional depth that have made their live performances so cherished — an invitation into the magic of an evening spent in the company of two artists completely at ease with their craft.

Nick Parker & The False Alarms will appear on Friday 31st July, their first appearance at Wickham since 2021. Based in Glastonbury, singer-songwriter Nick Parker has built a reputation as one of the UK’s most engaging independent folk-rock artists. After first performing in his early teens and spending over a decade touring the UK and Europe with bands Why? and Tobermory, Nick launched his solo career in 2010.
Since then, he has completed more than 30 tours across the UK and Europe, released five acclaimed studio albums, and earned airplay on BBC 6 Music and numerous radio stations. His distinctive songwriting blends folk, rock and Americana influences with witty storytelling, sharp observations and an infectious sense of humour.
Known for his highly interactive live shows, Nick regularly invites audiences to become part of the performance, creating a unique and memorable concert experience. Alongside his solo work, he performs with his full band, Nick Parker & The False Alarms, whose rich folk-rock sound incorporates instruments including fiddle, banjo, mandolin, pedal steel, accordion and brass.
Over the years, Nick has shared stages with artists including The Wedding Present, Bright Eyes, Chris Difford and Tom Robinson, while also touring with Levellers, Ginger Wildheart & The Sinners and Skinny Lister. During the pandemic, he launched the collaborative online music project Stranger Tunes, working with musicians connected to Pearl Jam, Levellers, The Wonder Stuff, Boomtown Rats and Blossoms.
A talented visual creator as well as a musician, Nick’s inventive music videos have received festival recognition, including selection for the Leeds International Film Festival. In 2022, he toured extensively across Europe supporting Levellers both as a solo artist and with The False Alarms, performing in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden.
With a career spanning decades, Nick Parker continues to win over audiences with his heartfelt songs, energetic performances and unmistakable charm.
Kathryn first took up the smallpipes at the age of 9. She learnt tunes from hill-shepherd friends and family, recording them on her trusty cassette player. Since then she has taken the musical spirit of ancient Northumbria to stages all over the world.
As well as her own acclaimed concerts and recordings, she has recorded and played with Sting, The Chieftains, Penguin Café, Eveyln Glennie, Jacob Collier, Royal Northern Sinfonia and many more. She was awarded the OBE for services to folk music. Kathryn also presents ‘Music Planet’ for BBC Radio 3.

Legendary Irish folk music band Dervish, are one of Ireland’s best known traditional bands and are described by the BBC as “an icon of Irish music”.
Dervish received a prestigious lifetime achievement award from the BBC in 2019, a fitting tribute to the band after over 30 years of recording and performing all over the world, playing at festivals from Rio to Glastonbury.
Dervish have a line-up which includes some of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians, fronted by one of the country’s best-known singers, Cathy Jordan. Regarded by many as the most distinctive voice and finest front-woman in Irish traditional music today – the instrumental line-up of fiddle, flute, bouzouki, mandola, bodhran and accordion draw from seemingly limitless depths of talent, finesse, subtlety and fiery energy. Exceptional musicianship, breath-taking vocals, vibrant sets of tunes and instantly compelling songs all come together to make Dervish as complete a band as are to be found anywhere in the tradition.
Dervish are regular visitors to the US, performing sell out shows from coast to coast. However, their fan base stretches across several continents, including Europe, Asia, and South America. They were the first Irish band to play the world’s biggest music festival, Rock in Rio, performing to an estimated 250,000 people. Over the years they’ve been on the same bill as artists such as James Brown, Neil Young, Sting and even Iron Maiden!
All six members of Dervish are steeped in the musical traditions of counties Sligo and Leitrim in north-west Ireland. It’s an area which matches Atlantic coastline with storied mountains and rural landscapes. It has inspired a host of musicians, artists and writers, including the Nobel Prize-winning poet W. B. Yeats.
Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Tim Edey is widely regarded as one of the finest melodeon and guitar players in the world of contemporary folk and Celtic music. A double BBC award winner, he was named BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the Year in 2012 and later received BBC ALBA Scotland’s Best Traditional Musician award in 2020, recognising his remarkable contribution to modern traditional music.
Over the past two decades, Tim has toured extensively across the UK, Europe, North America and beyond, performing at leading folk festivals and concert venues around the world. Along the way he has collaborated and recorded with many of the biggest names in traditional and roots music, including The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Natalie MacMaster, Altan, Capercaillie, Michael McGoldrick, Dougie MacLean, Mary Black, and Julie Fowlis. These collaborations have helped establish him as a respected figure within the international folk scene.
Originally from Broadstairs in Kent and of Irish heritage, Tim’s musical path began early. He developed his distinctive approach under the guidance of his father, guitarist Richard Edey, and drew inspiration from influential players such as Ed Boyd, Steve Cooney, and legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. These influences helped shape a sound that blends traditional Celtic roots with elements of folk, jazz and world music.
Tim spent several years living in Ireland before settling in Perthshire, Scotland, where he is now based with his family. From there he continues to travel widely, bringing his energetic live performances to audiences across the global folk circuit.
A Tim Edey live show is a highlight for audiences at any folk festival, combining dazzling instrumental virtuosity with warmth, humour and infectious energy. His performances move effortlessly between intricate instrumental pieces, powerful Celtic-inspired melodies and moments that invite the audience to sing along. The result is an unforgettable night of world-class traditional music, delivered by one of the most exciting performers on the folk scene today.
Gaz Brookfield made his debut at Wickham Festival in 2017, performing a solo acoustic set. His performance caused quite a stir with many requests for him to return, so he returned in 2018 with his Company of Thieves. We’re pleased to say by popular request he will finally return to Wickham Festival in 2026 as our Friday night headliners on Main Stage 2. This is one not to be missed!
West country based Gaz Brookfield is an award winning solo acoustic musician, with two number one albums to his name.
He has spent the last fifteen years tirelessly touring all over the UK and beyond, building a strong and loyal following wherever he goes.
Brookfield was the first independent musician to sell out Bristol’s The Fleece (450 cap) and The Bierkeller (750 cap) and more recently SWX (1000 cap).
Gaz has an impressive ten album strong back catalogue. In the autumn of 2023, Gaz’s ninth album, ‘Morning Walking Club’, saw him achieve his first number one in the Official UK Folk Albums Chart.
Brookfield got his second number one album in September 2025, when ‘Waiting for Wisdom’ topped the Official UK Download Charts.
Not a bad result for this fiercely independent musician, with no record label, no manager, no agent – just a guitar, a van, and a steadfastly belligerent refusal to give in.
Ferocious Dog will be performing at Wickham Festival 2026 on Saturday 1st August. They’ve been hailed as “a representation of our gut feeling, savage and merciless” and at the same time, called “folk in the grand tradition of it being the peoples sound.” Ferocious Dog, however are all those things.
2026 will be the final year of Ferocious Dog… but of course not before one last stop along the way at a certain field with us in Hampshire. They are not bowing out quietly!!! Let’s tear it up together one last time together in 2026.
Ferocious Dog has emerged as a prominent figure in the music world, renowned for their dynamic and authentic folk-punk sound that echoes the essence of Nottinghamshire. Formed in 2016 and based in Glasgow, Ímar have quickly established themselves as one of the most dynamic and distinctive forces on the contemporary Celtic folk scene. Bringing together five leading musicians from across Scotland, Ireland and England, the band unites deep-rooted tradition with explosive energy and a richly textured, modern sound. When they last appeared at Wickham Festival in 2018, they left an indelible mark with a set that was both ferocious and finely tuned — a hallmark of their live performances.
Ímar was conceived as a cross-border celebration of shared musical heritage. The original line-up brought together musicians who had already forged strong reputations in their own right, united by friendship, session culture, and a desire to create something powerful yet rooted. At the heart of the band is founding member Mohsen Amini (concertina), a driving creative force also known for his work with Talisk. His distinctive, rhythmically propulsive style forms a central pillar of Ímar’s sound.
On fiddle is Adam Brown, widely respected for his expressive playing and also a member of RURA, one of Scotland’s most celebrated modern traditional groups. Bodhrán virtuoso Ryan Murphy, a former All-Ireland Champion from Cork, anchors the band with precision and flair, drawing on deep Irish rhythmic traditions. Guitarist Marc Clement (formerly of Project Smok) brings harmonic sophistication and driving groove, while Charles Overton (harp) — long associated with The Outside Track — adds a distinctive tonal colour that sets Ímar apart from many of their contemporaries. The inclusion of harp in a high-energy instrumental quintet gives the band a rare blend of delicacy and power.
Though firmly grounded in West Coast Scottish and Irish traditions, Ímar are best known for their bold, expansive arrangements. Their music thrives on tight interplay, blistering tempos, and an intuitive sense of dynamics that makes every performance feel spontaneous yet razor-sharp. They avoid over-complication, instead focusing on melody, groove and collective lift — qualities that have earned them a devoted following across the UK, Europe and beyond.
Their debut album Afterlight (2017) announced them as an exciting new presence, while subsequent releases, including Avalanche (2019) and Awakening (2023), have cemented their reputation for musical evolution without sacrificing raw energy.
